We will soon be continuing our refurbishing of bunkers project by addressing holes 10-12 and fixing the front left bunker on #7. Our time frame is to have the excavator on site for 1 week to complete all the major digging and then be working on all the finish work for some time after that. All the old river sand will be removed completely and replaced with our new Mueller sand. Once finished, this should complete bunker restoration on the back 9, with the exception of a possible front-right pot bunker on #17 in the future. Here is potentially what is on tap for now though:

Hole #10:

New fairway bunker approximately 200 yards out on the left (just passed the newly leveled out rough area)
New bunker short-left of the green
Removal of back-right bunker
Modifications to front-right bunker in it's shape, size, and placement

Yes, the rumors are true, at some point this fall or winter the large Linden tree short-left of the green will be removed. It is such a nice tree but has simply gotten to big for it's space, creating havoc in trying to reach the green.

Hole #11:

New front-left bunker
Removal of Ash tree left of the green
Mounding around the left side of the green
Re-contouring the the left collar and edge of green by raising it up

Again, at some point this fall or winter, the rotted willow tree short-right of the green by the pond will be removed.

Hole #12:
These bunkers will be dealt with, time permitting with the excavator, after 10 and 11 are dug up.

Eliminate middle-left and back-right bunkers
Modifications to the shape, size, and placement of the remaining 3 bunkers

While this undertaking may be a slight short-term inconvenience on holes 10-12 as things are torn up, it is our hope that the result will be that of continued positive course improvements!

Another willow tree is gone

The willow tree front-right of #16 green had be be removed unfortunately after a series of events caused it to become unstable and unsafe. Many years ago a large section of the tree broke off in a storm, exposing quite a bit of the tree at is base. With this began the rotting process as the inside of the tree became exposed to the elements. Its final demise came a few weeks ago when the rotten, punk wood on the inside of the tree actually started smoldering and smoke billowed out. After removing all the burnt and rotten wood, there just wasn't much of the tree trunk left.

The willow tree front right of #11 green will be taken down in due time as well, as that has rotted a hole all the way through at the trunk.

Bug spray kills grass!

When applying bug spray please do so over cart paths. Even the slightest of over spray on the turf is enough to cause discoloration and damage to the turf. Thank you.

Coping with the extreme heat.

We are taking a few precautionary measures with our mowing of greens, tees, and fairways this week to help insure the quality of turf does not suffer through this upcoming week of extreme temps and humidity. Greens will still be cut daily, but at a slightly higher height. Tees and fairways also won’t be cut as short and will be mowed less frequently. All of these mowing height changes are quite minute, and should not affect playing conditions.

Throughout the week you will also see more watering going on during the day rather than running our normal overnight irrigation cycles. Watering during daylight hours is important with high humidity to minimize the amount of time the surface is wet. We will be syringing greens, tees, and fairways once or twice a day as needed just to keep the surface temps down and prevent any wilting of the turf.

Finally, we ask for your help in limiting cart traffic on the course this week to cart paths and rough only. Continuous heavy traffic on stressed out, and or wilting turf, is one of the fastest ways to cause even more damage.

Friday night's thunderstorm took out a willow tree on the left side of #10 fairway.

It was a long spring dealing with turf loss on greens after the harsh winter we had! Glad to see summer has arrived, although it sure hasn't felt like it yet temperature wise. Thanks to all our members for your patience in playing the few temporary greens for a few months. We are very pleased with the new turf on number 9, 13, and 15 greens!
